I spent the weekend with a man most of us wouldn’t mind putting on our dance cards. All day Saturday, I was watching the Cary Grant tribute on Turner Classic Movies, which in turn inspired me to rent and rewatch a few of the Cary Grant movies I hadn’t seen in a while.
In rewatching them I noticed anew that the female leads in his movies are some of the most glamorous women who’ve ever graced the screen. They also deliver some of the most intelligent, funny, sexy dialogue I’ve heard in a while.
Naturally, they reminded me of the Cotillion gals. And, without further ado, let’s get started on this week’s Cotillion, hosted by myself, Not a Desperate Housewife, A Mom and Her Blog, and Girl on the Right.
Eva Marie Saint in "North By Northwest"
SondraK gets forceful, calling for W. to wake up when it comes to immigration.
Mamamontezz tells the touching story of a minor leaguer who's making a major difference in the War on Terror. Cpl. Tony Stevens, USMC, is leaving for his third tour of Iraq in November. Godspeed, Cpl.
Maxed Out Mama says NARAL's still writing a script of deceit.
Attila Girl thinks Condi Rice could handle a very special leading role.
The question is not whether we will have a female President. The question is, when. And who will it be?—some Reno-esque hack selected in a smoke-filled back room because we were overdue for a chick Chief Executive? Or a qualified woman of principle? Someone who can carry on the legacies of other successful female heads of state?
Rosalind Russell in "His Girl Friday"
We've got a regular Hildy Johnson on our hands with Merri, who's taking a close look at the close relationship between the North American Man/boy Love Association (NAMbLA) and a convicted murderer.
Beth at MY Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy is ranting double-time on "The Propaganda War:"
If you APOLOGIZE for jihadis (terrorists!), then you are aiding and abetting their murderous crimes. You’re an accessory, dhimmi. YOU are the enemy. While you gleefully count dead American troops because the body count buttresses your pathetic, self-loathing views, the terrorists committing HIRABAH thank and laugh at the stupid Westerners who go soft on their behalf, exactly as the Cold War communists did with the Left.
Now, that's some dialogue!
Speaking of dialogue, Stacy at Not A Desperate Housewife has a monologue worth delivering. Eat your heart out, Eve Ensler!
Audrey Hepburn in "Charade"
Portia Rediscovered must have known my theme for this week before I did, because she's turned movie critic, and she suggests "I Am David."
It is brilliantly written, beautifully shot and tells a tale that will make you check yourself the next time you say your life is hard.
Charmaine Yoest, blogging from Justice Sunday, gives us plenty of genuine drama by relating one man's search for God and one woman's discovery of Him.
I surprised myself by tearing up a little right at the end when he looked at me directly and said, "Well, how do you know that God exists?" And I started trying to formulate an answer that could adequately convey my own experience of how truly, and personally, real God makes Himself when you do trust Him. . . but the problem is that you really can't fully express it. The answer only makes sense this side of the Leap of Faith.
Right Thinking Girl makes me think I should have posted some pictures from "The Fountainhead." She nails the "Greater Good" and her performance in one post. Brava for "The Greater Good is Evil."
Katharine Hepburn in "Bringing Up Baby"
Sounds like Rightwing Sparkle could use a little more Cary on her TV and a lot less bulimia and graphic sex. Yuck. Let her tell you about it.
And, Sissy lauds milblogger and reporter extraordinaire, Michael Yon, who is constantly bringing fresh perspective straight from combat to your computer.
Framing the blood, sweat and tears of his blow-by-blow accounts, Michael Yon's wise and witty asides will knock your socks off, especially if you're used to relying on the timid and agenda-driven MSM for any idea of what's really going on over there.
And, as a bonus link, Darleen has a really cool, personal story about Cary Grant, posted in the comments where I was guest-blogging at Wizbang.
Thanks again to my co-producers, Not a Desperate Housewife, A Mom and Her Blog, and Girl on the Right. Great performances all, ladies!
